Situated in the most northerly corner of the Alps, the Allgäu region of Bavaria in Germany is a much overlooked corner of the world. The Lodge Bavaria Activities

In the summer you can hike and bike on over 400kms of beautiful mountain tracks, glide across mirror lakes in canoes and explore stunning river gorges. Alternatively you can visit some of the areas beautiful cities and sites including King Ludwig’s Neuschwanstein castle near the Tyrolean border. This fairytale castle, most famously featured in the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, sits on a rocky outcrop in the mountains, surrounded by over 50 picturesque lakes and ponds.

As a winter destination the Allgäu boasts over 300kms of downhill skiing fun as well as access to unbeatable off piste terrain. From the Allgäu you can ski into Austria on the biggest linked ski area this side of the Alps, the Fellhorn and Kanzelwand.

Nordic skiing is also very popular with over 700km of beautifully pisted Nordic tracks to explore. As you glide along taking in the snowy scenes, you will tone up and get fit into the bargain!
At the beginning of the winter the farmers remove the fences leaving you free to roam the backcountry under whatever mode of transport takes your fancy; skis, sledges or snow-shoes.
